Exhibition "Willy Ronis, de Paris à Megève" (Willy Ronis, from Paris to Megève)
- From 8€
Megève is hosting an exhibition in its new cultural space in the Palais leisure complex, devoted to the French photographer Willy Ronis (1910-2009), co-produced by Jeu de Paume and the Médiathèque de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine (Architecture and Heritage Media Library).
This retrospective exhibition looks back over the career of this great photographer whose work, as a reporter, industrial photographer and illustrator, dominated French 20th century photography. The photographs highlight his political engagement and the development of his style. Over a period of nearly 80 years - from the 1930s to 2000s - Will Ronis trained his lens on the people of France, taking great delight in exploring the streets of the capital, the industrial regions and the South of France. However, he also captured scenes from Italy, England, the US as well as Moscow, Berlin and Prague during the height of the cold war.
At the end of his career, true to his word, he decided to donate his works to the State. The photographic prints displayed in this retrospective exhibition are a selection from some of the vast archives of reference materials, including prints from the photographic collection held by the Médiathèque de l’architecture et du patrimoine (MAP).
An entire section of the exhibition is devoted to the Alps, and Megève in particular, where Willy Ronis enjoyed skiing and where, during the 1930s, he carried out two photographic assignments, one for the André Ledoux ski school and the other for Air France magazine.
