Curling was invented in the 16th century in Scotland. The name of the sport comes from the word "curl": the curved line of a sliding stone.
The first round stones avec with a handle made their appearance in around 1700 and it was not until the 19th century that they adopted their current shape and weight of 20kg.
The game is played on a strip of ice 4.25m wide. The aim is to place one of your team's stones as close as possible to home, called the "tee". 16 stones are thrown, 8 for each team of four players.
During each "end", the players each throw 2 stones.
The player slides with the stone from the "hack" then releases the stone. The stone then continues to spin or "curl".
Come and see this sport, which became an Olympic discipline in 1998 in Nagano.
